Power Tower - The New Corporate Head Office Sets Standards
The new
corporate Energie AG Oberösterreich head office – the Power Tower – heralds a
new era for the energy efficiency of large office buildings. Not only is
the Power Tower a landmark in the cityscape of Linz, it also serves as the modern
headquarters for a vigorously expanding infrastructure group. Moreover it is a
unique pilot project that implements efficient and sustainable energy usage.
The Power Tower is the first high-rise office
building in the world that was built with passive-house characteristics. The
new corporate headquarters do not need to be connected to any district-heating
system, and the Power
Tower manages without using
any fossil energy for heating and cooling purposes.
The design
model by Zurich-based Weber/Hofer won the international architectural
competition. After the careful examination of several options, the decision to build
a new head office proved to be the best resolution - both strategically and in
terms of costs.
The overall
integrated energy design of the Power
Tower consists of three
pillars:
- building
shell/facade
- building technology
- generation of energy.
Altogether the new
corporate headquarters save about 450 tons of CO2 emissions per year
compared to a conventional high-rise building. The Power Tower
thus actively contributes to protecting our climate.
